Teacher

I have been teaching Art for 20 years. I have NYS certification to teach art K-12. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master of Science in Education degree. I have taught art at every level. Click on Elementary, Middle School or High School to see examples of the lessons I have taught.

My joy as a teacher is in transforming students, bringing them closer to their potential. I am enthusiastic and passionate about what I teach and motivate my students with conceptually based lessons that are challenging, relevant, and fun. I am attuned to my students, listening to them, observing how they learn and adjusting my teaching strategies to match their learning styles. The learning environment in my classroom encourages positive social interaction, and active engagement in learning, through activities involving critical and creative thinking and problem solving. I show my students that I value them and their differences. I show all students they can achieve academic success by developing goals that are real, attainable and a source of pride. I believe art is reflective of a person's life experiences, just like my art has been influenced by my love of animals and nature. That's why I believe it is important to make the lessons relevant to the students' lives. Art can help students look within themselves and explore new ways to express their cultural, spiritual, emotional, and physical experiences visually.
